PRAYING FOR ONE ANOTHER IN DAYSPRING

OUR MAIN FOCUS FOR PRAYER FOR ONE ANOTHER ON SUNDAYS IS A TABLE AT THE BACK OF THE MEETING. TWO PEOPLE WILL NORMALLY BE AVAILABLE TO PRAY WITH ANYBODY THROUGHOUT THE EVENT. OF COURSE, YOU ARE FREE TO ASK ANYBODY TO PRAY WITH YOU AT ANY TIME.

Sometimes:

  • we arrive needing prayer for healing or a difficult circumstance
  • drawing near to God with his people brings issues to the surface
  • a song lyric or comment from the worship leaders may prompt us to ask for prayer

  • going to the front for prayer is unnecessarily stressful or embarrassing
  • family or other needs mean that the end of the meeting is not a good time to receive prayer

In many charismatic events prayer ministry has become fixed as a third part of the meeting known as ministry time, with sung worship and preaching. Calls from the front can be very meaningful when a group response is prompted by the talk, or the speaker feels a nudge from the Spirit. However, there is no reason to suppose that this should be the norm, and many of us have found that God meets us powerfully at the prayer table. We want to be aware of God’s closeness in our everyday lives while still hungry for his special help when we need it. Praying for one another is a way of asking God to meet us in the moment.

Praying for one another in Dayspring is more about making a connection between a person receiving prayer and a faithful community, than the energy and gifting of an ‘anointed’ person.

  • The candle on the prayer table is simply a sign of where prayer is taking place.

  • We often use anointing oil when praying for healing. Anointing with oil is a vehicle for God’s grace, just like baptism and the Lord’s supper.

  • When it seems good, we do use other symbols in prayer ministry: pebbles to remind us of a particular prayer commitment; small holding crosses to help us to connect with the power of Christ’s death.

  • We do have good practice guidelines for prayer which we expect those who pray to follow as much as possible.
  • If you need prayer during the week, you are welcome to ask the Morning Prayer group to pray with you
