References for Breaking of Bread

Leader:Let us expect the Holy Spirit to breathe upon us as we prepare ourselves to celebrate the Jesus meal, first with bread and wine and later with brunch. Paul says, 'I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body, which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of me."' (1 Cor 11: 23-24)
Let us declare our convictions about the basis of our relationships together.

Together:The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts;
and though all its parts are many, they form one body.
So it is with Christ.
For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body
and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.
Those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable. (1 Cor 12:12-13,22)

Leader:After supper Jesus took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me." (1 Cor 11:25)
The law says that we can be made clean only if death occurs and blood is shed. (Heb 9:22)
The Lord Jesus Christ did not enter the presence of God with the blood of goats and calves. He sacrificed his own blood, and with it he set us free for ever. Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter God's presence by the blood of Jesus (Heb 9:12;10:19)

Together:Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart full of faith,
having our hearts cleaned from a guilty conscience
and having our bodies washed with pure water. (Heb 10:22)

Leader:Let us declare together with all the saints of history

Together:Lamb of God, Lion of Judah, Promised Messiah.
You have triumphed because you were killed,
and with your blood you purchased us for God
from every tribe and language and people and nation.(Rev 5:19)

Leader:Let us stand to commit ourselves to the work of the blood in our lives
Together:(Standing)
We overcome him by the blood of the Lamb
and by the things that we say;
we do not love our lives so much
as to shrink from death. (Rev 12:11)

Leader:Let us join a loud voice in heaven which says:

Together: The salvation and the power
and the kingdom of our God,
and the authority of his Christ
have now come.
For the accuser of our brothers and sisters,
who accuses them before our God day and night,
has been thrown out. (Rev 12:10)

Leader: Please sit down. Because we have confidence in the blood of the Jesus to bring about change in our lives let us agree with God that the seeds of global darkness and corruption can easily take root in our lives.

Together: If we claim to have fellowship with him
yet walk in the darkness,
we lie and do not live by the truth.
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light,
we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
If we claim to be without sin,
we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins,
he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins
and purify us from all unrighteousness.
If we claim we have not sinned,
we make him out to be a liar
and his word has no place in our lives. (1 John 1:6-10)
