CONTEM

The contemplative pathway doesn't seem a natural route for charismatics but there is such a thing as a contemplative charismatic.  For instance, people are realising that the charismatic gift of tongues provides a whole possibility of instant retreat--a chance to find a new way forward.

The way you are

  • BEING STILL AND SOLITARY IS THE BEST WAY FOR YOU TO KNOW GOD'S PRESENCE
  • YOU WOULD LIKE TO SPEND MORE TIME WITH GOD PRAYING IN TONGUES WHEN ALONE FEEDS YOUR SPIRIT
  • TO BRING INSIGHTS TO PEOPLE YOU NEED TO SPEND TIME IN QUIET PRAYER
  • YOU BELIEVE THERE IS A LOT MORE TO PRAYER THAN TALKING
  • YOU FEEL THAT YOUR GREATEST CONTRIBUTION TO MANY SITUATIONS IS PRAYER

Hearing from God

Things come to mind when praying or reading alone

Biblical Example

Elijah and perhaps Mary, Martha’s sister

Other Example

Rees Howells lived in the early part of last century and became an important figure in inspiring intercession – He founded the South Wales Bible College which produced people like Reinhart Bonke and Bryn Jones

Build

  • You need regular, protected, intense times of solitude and stillness.
  • Faithfully follow the intuitions and leadings that come in your times alone with God.
  • Act on what you hear from God in the silence.

Beware

  • You have a tendency to avoid the demands of the real world.
  • Be careful not to retreat to your inner world when friends, family, or society disappoint you.
  • Resist the temptation to consider your times of private prayer and solitude as more important than the more public acts of ministry performed by others.

BACKBalance

  • Choose a regular place of active service.
  • Stay relationally connected, even when those relationships become difficult or challenging.
  • Connect with those who have an activist pathway.
