With Joel's promise and the possibility opened up in Peter's sermon now available to us, why is it that we struggle to constantly know God's presence?

Possibly we make too much of the Old Testament stories and not enough of the good news of Jesus.  Apart from the very rare exceptions like Adam and Abraham, the people we have listed had occasional contact with God.o
