Talking about the cross from a Pentecostal perspective.
Here are a few resources that may help with my CCT Good Friday talk.
You can find my source for the statistics here.
I have been strongly influenced by recent thinking done by James K A Smith on Pentecostal Epistemology.
You can get his book here
or watch a lecture on the subject here.
My father's story can be found here and my mother's here.
The unedited script for my talk is here.
If you would like to pursue any of the ideas I have raised you should be able to comment below. To access other resources including information about current interests, please email me at davehalls@dayspring.org.uk

The opposite spirit
This Sunday we were back to talking about the cross and made some small reference to spiritual warfare and the idea of ACTING IN THE OPPOSITE SPIRIT.
I first heard of this idea from Gerald Coates but I believe it might have developed in YWAM with Loren Cunningham, the founder.
Anyway, if you want to know more, here and here are two helpful articles which you can read at leisure.

Awesome cross of power
Its 10.20 on Saturday night. I've got tomorrow's talk as far as I can - just a case of sleeping on it and praying the detail through in the morning.
Here are the bits you might want to follow up the session.
Wordles are a neat way of summarising and analysing text. You can make your own at www.wordle.net
Colossians 2:13-15
1 Corinthians 15:50-57
Here's the song which tells it better than I ever could.
And if you want to see the longer version of the HBO clip of the Roman triumphal procession, including a gory reminder of what happens to defeated enemies...

Awesome cross of freedom and forgiveness
The base from which I am working totay is Ephesians 1:7
For by the blood of Christ we are set free, that is our sins are forgiven.
That says it all really but the other ideas come from Colossians 1:19b-23a and Galatians 6:1-5.
Here's the fantastic movie I am showing towards the end.

ELEVEN REASONS WHY YOU MAY BE UNFULFILLED IN YOUR GIFT
In preparing for Sunday's talk on Here I am, I found myself thinking about reasons why people, including Abraham, Moses and me(!), sometimes feel unfulfilled or obstructed in their gifts and calling. As I result made a list. I am sure there are other reasons and you may be able to comment below. The Bible links point to what I think is supporting evidence or examples. If you can’t see the connection, please do ask.
- It may not be the season. All sorts of people, from Jesus down had to wait for an appointed time for their gifts and calling to become operational. (Habbakuk 2:2-3)
- Your present circumstances—like childcare—may make it difficult to use all your gifts. (Genesis 39-41)
- You may not be in the best location for all your gifts to function, though for other reasons it may be the best place for you to be. (1 Kings 17:1-6)
- Your gifts or associated skills and attitudes may need more development. (Galatians 1:11-17)
- God may have a special purpose in keeping you and your gift hidden. (This relates to seasons) (Ezekiel 33:21-22)
- Your gifts may not be matched by character development; faithfulness, availability, submissiveness or teachability, for instance. (2 Peter 1:8)
- Others—for whatever reason—may not see the gifts which you see in yourself. (Matthew 13:53-58; Acts 19:14-16)
- You may have been badly guided or your gifts wrongly assessed in the past. (1 Timothy 5:22)
- You may not be connected to those who can allow your gift to flower. (Colossians 4:7-10)
- You may be facing issues of release—such as health or stamina. (Philippians 1:7-14)
- Your gift may be operating though not at the measure or in the sphere you expected. Your gift of teaching may be operational in your family where you expected to lead Bible studies for audiences of thousands. (Romans 15:14-29; 2 Corinthians 10:14-16)

The list seems pretty comprehensive. Do you also have a list of the times when 'Here I am' appears in the bibe?
